Ab Workouts That Change You
Most people want to find an ab workout that will help them lose weight while also helping them gain six pack abs. When you see fitness trainers on television, infomercial for exercise machines or fitness videos, keep in mind that these models or trainers devote a good portion of their day to exercise, and didn't get that way from using a particular machine for ten minutes per day. However, you can get some really great results if you make sure to do reliable ab workouts (like those we'll be discussing) at least a few times each week.
One factor you have to keep in mind in relation to ab workouts is that your abdominal muscles aren't going to be very visible if you need to lose a significant amount of weight. In other words, if you're overweight and you do lots of crunches, sit-ups or exercises on ab machines, you'll get fitter and stronger, but when you look in the mirror you'll still see the fat covering your muscles. That's why you can't overlook the importance of your diet along with any exercise routines you do. If you want to have visible results with your ab workouts you need to partner them with cutting calories, eating healthy and doing aerobic exercises. While you have no doubt heard that crunches are a necessary part of a good ab workout, did you also know that doing them while you are on a medicine ball your range of movement will be very improved? Medicine balls are the weighted balls about the size of a soccer ball you see around gyms, not to be confused with the larger stability balls (which also have many good uses). You can also do plank exercises on the medicine ball; this is where you put your hands on the medicine ball and put the rest of your body in a push up kind of position. To make this even more challenging, do leg lifts while performing this exercise. If you're unfamiliar with these types of exercises, however, you should practice them on a mat before doing them on a medicine ball.
Pilates have proven to be a good option for strengthening your core and your ab muscles. Pilates is incredibly popular these days and you're more than likely to find classes in your area. You can also do all of the exercises by yourself at home in front of an instructional video. While there are a few Pilates exercises that require the use of special machines and equipment most don't and you can do them at home. A lot of the exercises you do will be kind of like yoga and are meant to strengthen your core (the middle of your body). Most people who do Pilates find out that, not only do they get toned ab muscles, they also learn how to better relax and get fit and flexible. The ab workouts in this article are just the tip of the iceberg. It can be good to change your workout routine every so often, both to work different muscle groups and to keep your workouts interesting. It's easy to get bored when you do the exact same workout every day and every week. What matters most is that you exercise at least a few times every week.
